Aims:
The DIESE project aims at Three major objectives are defined:
- Document the distribution, fate and effects of endocrine disrupters, mutagens and immunotoxic compounds in the environment with special emphasis on compounds present in sewage effluents;
- Increase our knowledge on effects of compounds alone and in combination in order to provide scientifically-based conclusions on the aquatic environment ;
- Use state-of-the-art approaches to develop new analytical tools which will be included in the suite of biological indices of the project (including genomic, proteomic and metabolomic techniques) and apply these across the region to provide maps indicating the health status of the aquatic environment of direct use and relevance to the water regulatory authorities tasked with EU Directive compliance in the shared region.
