The social responsability of the university
Included in the action plan of the institution, the social responsability of the university is one of the key features of the policy supported by the presidency of the ULHN.
Since 2012, a Vice-president delegate of the social responsability, has enabled to start a lot of significant projects and developments.
Intrisically a cross departmental mission, the issue of the social responsability of the university is raised in connection with the Vice-President, responsible for training and university life but also in relation to the Vice-President in charge of the human ressources.
Three major areas of action : |
Through this mission, the institution is committed to define a policy promoting the continuum secondary education and higher education which contributes to a better success of the students.
The work carried out by the social responsability mission of the university also aims to implement a policy which contributes to improve the reception of users in order to strive towards equal opportunities for access and success in higher education.
Finally, the Vice-President delegate of the social responsability of the university encourages the policies needed to achieve equality between women and men in society, and these policies apply to both students and members of staff.
The ULHN has placed success at the heart of its concerns, therefore it created and implemented an innovative project to promote success of undergraduate students. This action has proved effective at a local level.
The device « osez la réussite » was designed to encourage more technological high school graduates to apply to university and above all to ensure better success in DUT (university diploma of technology). In Le Havre, the link between the educational teams of stream STI2D of Lycée Jules Siegfried and the industrial departments of the IUT was strengthened. As a result, a system of individualised support was established, from the eleventh grade to the end of the first semester of the DUT.
The ULHN pays particular attention to the success of students and is strongly mobilised – with well-known results – to ensure the reception of all high school graduates and promote success and professional integration of all the students. In this context, the university is developing a policy of pedagogic support by establishing different actions of teaching support, methodology of documentary work and helping students to develop their career plans. Incoming students are particularly cared for. To promote access to higher education and access to university by the largest number of students, the institution offers refresher trainings through University Diplomas : DUPRES and DUPRESHE.
In connection with the preventive health services, the disability department welcomes students with disabilities in the best possible way thanks to special arrangements concerning the organisation of their studies and to technical and human support.
Training kit: “égalité professionnelle: où en êtes vous?”
The university is signatory to the interministerial agreement 2013-2018 for equality between women and men. In this context, it was actively involved in the creation of a training kit “égalité professionnelle: où en êtes vous?” This tool kit aims to raise awareness of situations of inequality in our professional environment and to take action. This resource helps to provide the local actors with a common culture of equality between women and men.
Led by the regional task force for women’s rights and for equality between women and men ( DRDFE), The partnership brought together ARACT, the engineering schools CESI and INSA, the universities of Rouen and LE Havre, the Management school of Nomandie, Pôle Emploi Normandie, DREAL, DRAAF and the Rectorate ( DAFPIC).
The tool kit is designed to deliver a group training session of one and a half hour (12 to 15 people). The method is based on the principles of « compelling communication » which aims at achieving a change in attitude, and consequently a change in behaviours.
The animation kit is freely available and downloadable from the sites of the prefectures of the region.
The training kit will be developed at the ULHN in the course of 2019. Every year, gender trainings are offered on the training plan of the institution. These trainings are a priority for the university and enable staff members to use their individual right to training.
Inclusive communication
Some guides to good practice were published within the framework of the “Interministerial Convention for equality between girls and boys, women and men in the educational system” and signed in Rouen on September 25th 2013 by the Government – Normandie Regional office for women’s rights equality – The Regional Education Authority of Rouen and 19 signatory partners, including the ULHN. These guides will help you to neutralize gender stereotypes in your communication.
Often associated to the business world, situations of sexual harassment and discrimination can also happen in educational and research places like higher educational and research institutions. Just like the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and other institutions, the ULHN chose to take up the issue and to take action at many levels to support its community and say no to sexual harassment.
A welcome and listening support (CESAM)
Within the framework of its mission for equality between women and men, the presidency of the university has recently coordinated the creation of a welcome and listening support (CESAM) aimed at all the members of its community. It was developed as a real place of welcome, listening, orientation and support of the victims or witnesses of acts of sexual harassment. This support cell is composed of qualified members and it guarantees a concrete response to all situations.
A communication and prevention of sexual harassment campaign
In order to educate the larger university community (staff members and students) and to spread the contact details of the support cell, a communication campaign is developed every year around the end of November.
An acknowledged process
These actions to fight violence against women have allowed the university to obtain the title of “orange day champion” for the years 2017 and 2018, awarded by the UN Women French National Committee.
