Objectif de formation et parcours possible

The Renewable Energy in Civil Engineering (RECEng) programme is a specialisation offered during the second year of the Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering at Université Le Havre Normandie.

Entirely taught in English, the programme prepares future engineers to address today’s energy and environmental challenges by combining expertise in renewable energy technologies and development. Students develop the scientific, technical and project management skills required to design and implement renewable energy production farms.

International environment:

RECEng is designed for students wishing to study in an international environment.

The programme welcomes students from many different countries each year, with international students representing around 80% of each cohort. All courses are taught in English and several modules are delivered by guest professors from partner universities in Germany, Spain and Denmark.

Students can also benefit from French lectures for Foreign students.

Why study at Université Le Havre Normandie?

Located in Normandy, one of France’s leading industrial and maritime regions, Université Le Havre Normandie offers an ideal environment for students interested in renewable energy and sustainable development.

The university combines recognised research expertise, close links with industry and an international outlook, providing students with the skills and experience needed to build successful careers in the energy sector.

Stage

An internship is an integral part of the programme and enables students to apply their knowledge in a professional environment.

Students are encouraged to complete their internship in France or abroad, particularly within companies and organisations working in renewable energy, civil engineering or sustainable infrastructure.

The Career and Employability Office (EOI) supports students throughout their internship search by providing guidance on CV writing, cover letters, interview preparation and job search strategies.

The Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering is organised over two years (120 ECTS).

During the first year, taught in French, students strengthen their knowledge in the fundamental areas of Civil Engineering through courses in geotechnics, structures, structure design, continuum mechanics, fluid mechanics, projects in civil engineering, and other core engineering subjects. This year provides the scientific and technical foundations required to pursue one of the five specialisations offered in the second year of the programme.

This page presents the second-year specialisation (Master 2) in Renewable Energy in Civil Engineering (RECEng).

This second year is an international program, entirely taught in English. , tThe programme focuses on renewable energy technologies and development along with the associated civil engineering works. It combines engineering, sustainable development and energy systems to prepare students for the challenges of the energy transition.

The curriculum is organised around five complementary modules:

  • Wind Energy (6 ECTS) – Wind resource assessment, wind turbines technologies including aerodynamics, blade design and materials, numerical tools associated to wind turbines performances and wind farm design including production estimation, optimised deployment, project management, project in wind energy.
  • Marine Energy (6 ECTS) – Wind, wave and tidal resource assessment, Offshore wind, tidal and wave energy technologies and industrial sector. Development of offshore wind including production, deployment, environmental impact and design of offshore structures, projects in marine energy.
  • Solar and Earth Energy (6 ECTS) – Photovoltaic and thermal solar energy resource assessment, technologies and production assessment, development of photovoltaic farms including project management and civil engineering works, geothermal energy resource assessment, technologies and production assessment, biomass and energy storage, project in solar energy.
  • Civil Engineering (6 ECTS) – Onshore and offshore foundations’ design for renewable energy systems, management of civil works for renewable energy projects, costing of renewable energy projects.
  • Humanities and Electrotechnics (6 ECTS) – Climate change and energy transition, renewable energy economics and geopolitics, grid integration, fundamentals of electrotechnics and energy converters.

The programme combines lectures, engineering projects, conferences, site visits and an internship, enabling students to develop both advanced technical knowledge and practical experience in renewable energy and civil engineering.

Teaching team

The teaching team is composed of

  • professors from European Universities (Osnabrück Hochschule in Germany, Horsens University in Denmark, University of Balearic Islands in Spain),
  • Industrial experts from Elys, EDP, RWE, EDF, Engie, Skyborn, SAIPEM…
