Request the use of your first name
Updated on: 10/06/2026
In order to improve reception and facilitate access to university services, the Université Le Havre Normandie allows its students to use a customary first name on certain internal documents and tools, in accordance with the Règlement Général des Études.
L’utilisation du prénom d’usage permet de poursuivre ses études dans un environnement respectueux et inclusif. Aucune justification n’est demandée et aucune démarche de modification de l’état civil n’est nécessaire.
Where will the customary first name appear?
Once registered, the customary first name can appear on :
- student card ;
- registration and sign-in lists ;
- university messaging system.
Please note: The customary first name may not appear on diplomas and certificates of achievement, which use the first name from the civil registry.
How do I apply?
- Application: complete the online form and send it to the central school department (DFSVE) by e-mail to the director: carole.elysee@univ-lehavre.fr
- Processing: the central school department (DFSVE) examines the request, informs the components and pedagogical secretariats concerned, then updates the attendance lists and internal documents.
- Information: central schooling (DFSVE) confirms the introduction of the customary first name and proposes an appointment to hand in an updated version of the Léocarte.
This can be done at any time, and remains effective throughout your time at Université Le Havre Normandie.
Legal framework and recommendations
- Changing a first name or gender in the civil register follows a specific procedure described on the service-public.fr website.
