Strategic priorities
Updated on: 10/06/2026Université Le Havre Normandie embodies the spirit of a constantly evolving region. The university has a strong strategic ambition, aimed at strengthening its role as a player in scientific research, a driving force for innovation, and its mission to promote academic excellence and student success for the benefit of the development of the Le Havre area and the Normandy region, while consolidating its influence on an international scale.
Defined by the President and his management team in collaboration with the university community and the institution’s partners, Université Le Havre Normandie’s strategic project is structured around three key orientations:
- Supporting young people towards success and employment in service of the region, in particular by strengthening the pre-baccalaureate to Master’s level continuum, individualising study pathways, and developing apprenticeships and continuing education in close connection with the region;
- Rethinking our research activities in order to innovate in service of society, in particular by promoting research skills and activities for the benefit of the socio-economic world and by encouraging dialogue between science and society;
- Providing a sustainable, responsible living environment that is open to the world, by exporting internationally a model of higher education and research rooted in its region.
The institution stands out in particular through its organisation, which aims to offer students high-quality education rooted in the realities of contemporary challenges, while preparing them for a constantly evolving labour market. The university also cultivates an innovative research spirit by supporting collaborative projects with the socio-economic world and strengthening its network of international partnerships. In this context, it seeks to break down barriers between ways of thinking, cultures and practices in order to foster synergies between its various laboratories and components, as well as to bring together its local and international partners through interdisciplinarity and international openness, around three thematic areas:
- Maritime and port-related challenges
- The city of tomorrow
- Transitions, risks and hazards
Université Le Havre Normandie thus positions itself as a key player in regional development, actively contributing to the competitiveness of the region, its cultural influence and the improvement of quality of life.
By focusing on openness to the world and social responsibility, the university aims to become a model for the higher education institution of tomorrow, driving ambitious projects and providing solutions to societal challenges.
