Transitions environnementales et sociétales
Updated on: 10/06/2026As a key player in the academic, scientific, cultural and professional spheres, Université Le Havre Normandie is committed to and actively involved in concrete actions in the field of sustainable development. The institution is therefore pursuing a project aimed at identifying and implementing alternative solutions that reconcile environmental protection, economic growth and social responsibility.
Bringing together nearly 8,000 people on its campus, the university supports its students and staff on a daily basis in order to foster collective awareness and responsible behaviours that benefit everyone.
As a winner of several calls for projects relating to the energy renovation of public buildings under the Recovery Plan led by the French State, Université Le Havre Normandie launched an action plan in 2021 in support of a renewed university campus.
Planned over a three-year period, the works undertaken as part of the Recovery Plan enabled the institution to address the energy performance issues of its real estate assets and thereby continue its eco-responsible development. The final phase of the works carried out on the Lebon site was completed during the 2023–2024 academic year.
Renovation and insulation of all roofs on the Lebon site over three years
In 2020, as part of the France Relance Plan, Université Le Havre Normandie applied for and obtained more than €4,450,000 to renovate and thermally insulate the roofs of the buildings on the Lebon site. The works, carried out over three years, made it possible to resolve major infiltration problems and now help improve the energy performance of the institution’s real estate assets.
A first step in support of the institution’s energy and environmental transition strategy
The approach initiated, together with the funds raised as part of the Recovery Plan, supports the energy and environmental transition strategy pursued by Université Le Havre Normandie for its real estate assets. This strategy is based on three areas of development: modernising facilities, improving energy efficiency through renovation, and developing renewable energy. For example, photovoltaic panels have been installed on building roofs since autumn 2023 as part of partnership projects, alongside connection to the district heating network set up by Le Havre Seine Métropole, thereby helping to significantly reduce the institution’s carbon footprint.
