Registering for a thesis

Doctoral students must be affiliated with a research laboratory and registered with an institution. He/she is considered by the university and his/her host laboratory as a young researcher.

Registration as a doctoral student is decided by the head of the establishment on the recommendation of the director of the doctoral school, following the opinion of the thesis director and the director of the research unit concerned, after studying the application file completed by the candidate.

Defending your thesis

“Doctoral training is organized within doctoral schools. It consists of training through research, in research and innovation, which can be completed through initial or continuing education. It constitutes professional research experience, sanctioned, after thesis defense, by the award of the doctoral degree.”

The “habilitation à diriger des recherches” recognizes the candidate’s high scientific level, the originality of his or her approach in a particular field of science, his or her ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad scientific or technological field, and his or her capacity to supervise young researchers.
