The Laboratory for Waves and Complex Media (LOMC) is organizing the second edition of the MUDNET conference from September 28 to 30.

This event is intended to serve as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, bringing together scientists and practitioners to discuss the complex properties of fine-grained sediments, more commonly known as “silt.” Discussions will focus on sediment management and the challenges it poses for European ports, as well as on the behavior of silt in natural environments.

The discussions will focus on several topics, including rheology, biology, acoustics, and hydraulics. The conference aims to strengthen the links between basic research and engineering applications, while fostering new collaborations on topics such as low-density sediments, operational decision support, sustainable dredging strategies, and adaptive management of maritime projects in compliance with environmental requirements.

This event will also provide a forum for dialogue between leading researchers and industry partners to share their knowledge, identify key challenges, and explore innovative solutions to improve sediment management in ports and waterways, while preserving the health of marine ecosystems. To achieve this, participants will discuss the development of predictive models and protocols based on field observations and laboratory analyses, with the goal of promoting smarter and more sustainable port maintenance.
